FAQS

Do I wait to start the timer until the water starts boiling again after adding the rice?
No. Start the timer immediately after putting the rice into the boiling water for 8 mins.
Can I leave the rice in hot water after the 8 mins cooking time has lapsed?
No. Drain the rice immediately after 8 mins.
Do I need to cook the chicken before layering and adding rice?
No you don't need to cook the chicken in advance.
Will the chicken cook though?
Yes. To perfection. Remember to use your biggest burner for the whole process, adjusting the flame accordingly to the recipe.
Can we use flavoured yogurt?
No. Use plain natural yogurt.
What if I don't have one of the ingredients on the list?
You can still make it but we can not guarantee that you will get the best results.
I am not a good cook. Can I still use your biryani box?
Our biryani box is designed for everyone from amateur cooks to professionals. It is perfect for students or those who have never cooked before. Follow our simple instructions and you should be able to make it, with great results.
What if there is some water left at the bottom of the pot after cooking?
Due to variations in cookers and cooking pots, cooking times may vary slightly. Dry ti by putting it on high flame for 1-2 mins with lid on before re-checking.
My biryani is slightly stuck/burnt at the bottom of the pot?
Due to variations in cookers and cooking pots, cooking times may vary slightly. Reduce the time by 5 mins next time you make it.
Can I put vegetables in it?
Yes you can put any vegetables you like. Although depending on amounts this may affect cooking times.
Don't have a shallow or wide pot?
No problem, you can use any pot available. Just remember the rice needs space to expand whilst cooking. Ideally after adding all ingredients(chicken, fried onions, tomatoes and rice), the pot should be filled up to 3/4 of the way before cooking, for best results.
Will the biryani be spicy?
No. It will be mild. You can adjust the taste by reducing the amount of chillis used. For a milder taste keep the chillis whole.
I like my biryani spicy?
Add extra hot green chillis to the marinade. For a spicy taste chop 2/3 chillis into the marinate instead of using whole chillis.
Can I put tomato and coriander on top of the rice?
No. For best results follow the instructions given. Do not change the sequence or timings.
